In Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district, a retired railway worker was reportedly defrauded of Rs 19.28 lakh due to an online scam, according to police. The victim was misled by a caller impersonating a senior railway official.

The victim, identified as Brijmohan from Pure Bana Majre Baharpur village, had retired as a railway trackman on October 31. On December 8, Brijmohan received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Divisional Railway Manager's office in Mumbai, requesting the verification of his pension details.

Trusting the call's legitimacy, Brijmohan sent his personal documents via WhatsApp, only to discover that Rs 19.28 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account through nine online transactions. The case is under investigation, as stated by Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Kumar Singh.
