A shocking 18-year-old cold case has finally seen resolution with the arrest of Nandlal alias Nandu Ramdas Vishwakarma, accused of raping and brutally murdering a five-year-old girl in 2007, law enforcement revealed on Saturday.

After allegedly luring the victim with promises of chocolate, Vishwakarma is said to have committed the heinous crime within Manikpur police station's jurisdiction 18 years ago. Ironically, Vishwakarma himself was just 22 when the incident occurred.

The accused reportedly fled to Nepal post-crime and lived there for several years before returning to his village in Uttar Pradesh. Acting on a crucial tip-off, Crime Detection Cell-2, Vasai in collaboration with local police, finally apprehended him from Khardauri on December 10.
