An ambush by the Islamic State group on Saturday in central Syria has resulted in the deaths of two US service members and one American civilian, while leaving three other individuals wounded, according to a statement from the US Central Command.
This attack is notably the first to cause casualties among US troops in Iraq since the fall of Syrian President Bashar Assad occurred a year ago, raising concerns about increased instability in the region.
In a post on X, Central Command emphasized that it is withholding the identities of the deceased service members for at least 24 hours to ensure that their next of kin are notified in accordance with Department of War policy.
