The Delhi High Court has taken decisive action against defamatory content circulating on social media platforms, targeting Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary. Justice Amit Bansal, in a recent ruling, ordered the removal of such content, acknowledging a prima facie case in favor of Choudhary.
Choudhary, a National Conference leader, approached the court to seek a permanent injunction against the derogatory material, alleging it held malicious and defamatory intent with sexual undertones. His legal team urged the court to expedite the removal of this content, emphasizing the damage to his reputation and image, particularly in viral media videos pairing him with a woman.
The court recognized Choudhary's professional integrity and his significant efforts towards achieving his political status. The matter is scheduled for further proceedings in April, while Choudhary has been asked to submit accurate transcripts of the alleged defamatory content to enable a comprehensive assessment.
