A Sydney shopowner is being celebrated for disarming a gunman at a Jewish holiday event at Bondi Beach, while a couple and another man who perished confronting attackers are equally remembered for their heroism. Among the fallen is Reuven Morrison, 62, who attempted to halt the violence, according to his daughter.
Sheina Gutnick shared that her father bravely engaged the terrorists, throwing bricks and trying to protect his community. Videos on social media capture Morrison's bravery alongside Ahmed al Ahmed's daring disarmament of one gunman. Morrison, originally from the USSR, died in the incident.
Ahmed is recuperating from surgery, with public donations exceeding A$2 million. Authorities are investigating the attack as a terrorist act against the Jewish community. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese commended those whose bravery likely saved many lives during Australia's worst mass shooting in nearly 30 years.
