In a major crackdown, customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport arrested two Indian nationals arriving from Bangkok on Saturday. Officials revealed that 8.77 kg of ganja was seized from their possession.
The passengers, who landed at Terminal 3 on January 14, were intercepted based on spot profiling and directed for X-ray screening and detailed baggage examination. A dark blue trolley bag containing nine polythene packets of suspected ganja was discovered during the screening.
The customs department confirmed through a diagnostic field test that the substance was ganja or marijuana, valued at Rs 8.771 crore in the international market. The suspects were detained under the NDPS Act, as stated in the officials' report.
