Roshan Redkar, the former sarpanch of Arpora-Nagoa, has turned himself in to a local court over his alleged involvement in a tragic nightclub fire that claimed 25 lives. His surrender follows the dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea by the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court.
Accused of facilitating illegal licenses for the 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub, Redkar was booked alongside others, including the panchayat secretary Raghuvir Bagkar. The Directorate of Panchayat has consequently stripped Redkar of his sarpanch position.
The Goa police have charged Redkar with culpable homicide and negligent conduct, arresting nine people in total. This ongoing investigation highlights systemic failures in regulatory adherence within the panchayat system.
