Centre to Bring Tough Laws Against Fake Seeds, Fertilizers: Chouhan

The Central Government will soon introduce stringent new agricultural laws to protect farmers from fake seeds, spurious fertilizers and counterfeit pesticides, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced during his one-day visit to Chhattisgarh.
Delivering a firm policy message, the Union Minister said that tampering with a farmer’s crops, livelihood and future will no longer be tolerated. He stressed that selling fake agricultural inputs is not just an economic offence but a betrayal of farmers’ trust, and warned that those responsible will face strict and punitive action.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the farmer and his holistic development remain our highest priority,” Shri Chouhan said. “Those who destroy crops through fake inputs will be dealt with firmly under the law.”
Minister Reaches the Fields, Interacts Directly with Farmers
Beginning his visit, the Union Minister toured Girhola and Khapri villages in Durg district, stepping onto field bunds and interacting directly with farmers. He inspected nurseries, agricultural fields and farms, and discussed crop cycles, horticulture practices, irrigation systems, seed production and the adoption of modern technologies.
Promoting Green and Profitable Farming
In Girhola village, Shri Chouhan planted a mango sapling, highlighting the dual benefits of environmental conservation and long-term farm income. He urged farmers to integrate tree-based and horticulture farming with traditional agriculture to enhance sustainability and profitability.
From Paddy to Horticulture: A Shift in Chhattisgarh
At Anil Agriculture Farm in Khapri, the Union Minister addressed a farmers’ chaupal, congratulating progressive farmers for combining traditional knowledge with modern techniques. Farmers shared that horticulture and vegetable cultivation are delivering higher returns than paddy, prompting Shri Chouhan to emphasize crop diversification as the need of the hour.
Highlighting Key Central Schemes
The Union Minister briefed farmers on major government initiatives, including:

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi for direct income support

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for crop insurance

Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana for innovation and productivity

Digital Agriculture Mission, including drones for crop monitoring and pesticide spraying
He said these initiatives are reducing costs, improving efficiency and strengthening farm resilience.
Natural Farming and Water Conservation the Future
Shri Chouhan described natural farming, micro-irrigation and water conservation as the future of Indian agriculture, urging farmers to adopt these practices at scale.
He also highlighted rural development schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and the National Rural Livelihood Mission, stressing that rural development is about dignified livelihoods and quality of life, not just infrastructure.
Renewed Resolve to Raise Farmers’ Income
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to making agriculture profitable, the Union Minister expressed confidence that strong laws, modern technology and farmers’ hard work will usher in a new agricultural revolution across Chhattisgarh and the country.
The visit is being seen as a significant step toward strengthening agricultural infrastructure, promoting modern farming practices and safeguarding farmers’ interests.
Senior leaders including Chhattisgarh Home Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, Agriculture and Tribal Development Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, Minister Shri Gajendra Yadav, Ahivara MLA Shri Doman Lal Korsewada, along with agricultural scientists, officials and large numbers of farmers were present.
