In a shocking incident from Maharashtra, a man allegedly murdered his six-year-old daughter in a bid to become eligible for local body elections. The state's two-child policy disallows candidates with more than two children from contesting, leading to this tragic outcome, police authorities revealed on Monday.
The accused, a 28-year-old resident of Kerur village in Mukhed taluka, reportedly took his daughter to Nizamabad district in Telangana, where he threw her into a canal. The local police were alerted after residents discovered the girl's body, prompting an investigation by multiple police teams.
The investigation uncovered the man's motive; he aimed to run for the Gram Panchayat Sarpanch position but was ineligible due to having three children. Efforts to modify official records failed, leading him to resort to desperate measures. Both the accused and the sitting Sarpanch were apprehended by police.
