Air Cambodia's Boeing Deal Highlights Strengthened US Ties

Cambodia's national airline, Air Cambodia, has announced a purchase of 10 Boeing 737 MAX jets. This decision underscores the strengthening ties between Cambodia and the United States, as revealed during the Singapore Airshow. U.S. and Cambodian officials and diplomats attended the announcement.

The announcement included firm orders for 10 planes, with the opportunity to purchase an additional 10. According to Cambodia's Civil Aviation Minister, Mao Havannall, this deal highlights the deepening cooperation between the two nations, a sentiment echoed during a news conference.

The agreement followed ongoing negotiations intended to reduce U.S. tariffs on Cambodian products, moving from an initial threat of 49% down to 19%. Relations between the U.S. and Cambodia have improved significantly under President Donald Trump, with Cambodia even nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize after his diplomatic interventions.
