Jammu & Kashmir Steps Up War on Drugs with Record Arrests and Convictions

In 2025, Jammu and Kashmir government strengthened its fight against drugs, registering 1,863 FIRs and arresting 2,592 individuals. The authorities seized substantial quantities of narcotics and executed preventive detentions and property attachments. In a significant crackdown on narcotics, Jammu and Kashmir authorities have revealed that in 2025, a total of 1,863 FIRs were filed and 2,592 individuals were arrested for drug-related offenses across the Union Territory.

At the 16th NCORD meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Inspector General of Police (Crime) Sujit K Singh announced notable judicial progress—with 229 convictions and 240 preventive detentions under the PIT-NDPS Act.

Jammu and Kashmir's rank has soared to third nationally in property attachments linked to narcotics. The enforcement agencies also made large-scale drug seizures and aggressive efforts to eliminate illicit crop cultivation, signaling unwavering resolve in the anti-drug campaign.
