The Nagaland Cabinet held a crucial meeting at Chumoukedima to deliberate on significant topics such as the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation's demand for creating a Frontier Nagaland Territory. These discussions are set against the backdrop of impending talks with the Government of India in New Delhi, raising hopes for a favorable resolution.
In an effort to streamline discussions on political and center-related issues, the Cabinet formed a sub-committee within the Political Affairs Committee, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. This delegation, which has already departed for New Delhi, aims to address concerns about the Free Movement Regime and the re-imposed Protected Area Permit.
Another key issue on the agenda was the exploration of oil and natural gas. Despite past legal challenges, the Cabinet is moving forward under Article 371A, which grants Nagaland unique constitutional rights over its resources. Additionally, reforms to the landholding system were mapped out, emphasizing registration and revenue collection to clarify land rights.
