Tragedy in Meghalaya: Illegal Coal Mine Blast Claims 27 Lives

In Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills, the death toll from an illegal coal mine explosion has risen to 27, following the grim discovery of two more bodies. Authorities continue to search in the Thangsku area of Umsngat village, where the blast occurred last Thursday.

Search operations are still underway as several people remain missing, according to Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar. Officials are working to verify the identities of the deceased victims amid the chaos of the disaster.

A suo motu FIR has been lodged at Khliehriat police station based on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant mining and explosives acts. Authorities have detained two suspects, Forme Chyrmang and Shamehi War, in connection with the incident.
