Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil presented himself before a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing multiple alleged sexual assault cases against him, according to police sources. On Monday, the MLA faced interrogation in the first of these cases, involving serious accusations of rape and coercion to terminate a pregnancy.
Mamkootathil, who had sought anticipatory bail granted by the Kerala High Court on February 12, is obligated to comply with investigative procedures, including the submission of his mobile phone, and partaking in a three-day interrogation session, expected to occur from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., if necessary.
The court specified that as the investigation proceeds, the MLA would be considered under custody to satisfy investigative requisites, such as a medical examination. Conditions of his bail require him to post a bond of Rs 1 lakh, supported by two solvent sureties, should there be an intention for his formal arrest.
