This Tuesday, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea of an IAS officer, Y Srilakshmi, seeking discharge in the high-profile Obulapuram Mining Company case. The ruling sets the stage for her much-anticipated trial.
A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and N K Singh upheld the Telangana High Court's previous decision, refusing to discharge Srilakshmi, who served as the Industries & Commerce Secretary in Andhra Pradesh from 2006 to 2009. The court's decision follows a complex judicial process that began last year when the Supreme Court initially stayed the trial and issued a notice to the CBI regarding Srilakshmi's plea.
Srilakshmi stands accused of leveraging her public office to unlawfully favor M/s Obulapuram Mining Company, allegedly leading to significant financial losses to the public exchequer. She faces serious charges under Sections 120B and 409 of the IPC, as well as under the Prevention of Corruption Act, while businessman Gali Janardhan Reddy, involved in the case, awaits appeal proceedings.
