A fifth casualty has been reported by Cuba following a deadly shootout last month involving a Florida-flagged speedboat. The Cuban interior ministry announced the death of Roberto Álvarez Ávila on March 4 due to injuries sustained during the incident.
According to Cuban authorities, the shootout occurred on February 26 when soldiers confronted a vessel carrying 10 people. The passengers, identified as armed Cubans residing in the U.S., allegedly aimed to infiltrate Cuba and instigate terrorism.
Cuban officials claim the shootout resulted in four deaths and the wounding of six others. The Cuban government has filed terrorism charges against six suspects from the speedboat and discovered a cache of weapons and ammunition aboard. Tensions between Cuba and the U.S. risk further escalation following this incident.
