A notorious drug peddler has been detained under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, police announced. Javad Iqbal Tass, from Bhangai village in Thanamandi, has been implicated in numerous drug-related cases. His detention aligns with ongoing efforts to combat narcotics and safeguard youth, a police spokesperson stated.

The decision to detain Tass came after careful consideration of his repeated involvement in drug trafficking. Following the issuance of detention orders by the competent authorities, Tass was detained and transported to the district jail, the spokesperson detailed.

In a related crackdown, two more drug peddlers were apprehended in the Sidhra area of Jammu and Mendhar in Poonch district. Authorities seized heroin-like substances from them. One arrest followed the recovery of 6.37 grams of heroin from a driver stopped at Dengyali road, while the other peddler was caught with nearly eight grams of heroin in Mendhar town, leading to cases being registered under the NDPS Act.
