Abraham T Sangma, Superintendent of Police, confirmed the altercation took place in the Chibinang area due to rising tensions between tribal and non-tribal communities.

Following the incident, a district-wide curfew was enforced, and the state government temporarily suspended mobile internet services to mitigate further unrest as elections approach.
