In a tense standoff in Meghalaya, two individuals lost their lives after security forces fired upon unruly crowds in the West Garo Hills district. The violence unfolded amidst the ongoing GHADC election nomination process.
Abraham T Sangma, Superintendent of Police, confirmed the altercation took place in the Chibinang area due to rising tensions between tribal and non-tribal communities.
Following the incident, a district-wide curfew was enforced, and the state government temporarily suspended mobile internet services to mitigate further unrest as elections approach.
