The Mizoram State Election Commission prepares to reveal the polling date for the 19-member Aizawl Municipal Corporation this Wednesday, according to official sources. State Election Commissioner H. Lalthlangliana is slated to address the media, indicating a step towards imminent municipal elections.

The municipality's current term officially ended on March 1. However, elections were postponed due to administrative needs, including a concluded assembly budget session and ongoing board examinations. As preparations unfold, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) is yet to declare its candidates, contrasting with the Mizo National Front (MNF) which has finalized its candidate roster. The Congress revealed names for 13 slots.

Approximately 2.39 lakh voters, with 1.26 lakh identified as female, will engage in this political process spread across 19 wards. In the previous municipal elections in February 2021, the MNF won a majority with 11 seats, followed by the ZPM with 6 seats, and Congress taking 2.
