In a tense state assembly session, Congress and AAP legislators endeavored to spotlight election expenditure concerns tied to the General Administration Department's budgetary allocation. However, the Speaker thwarted the debate, invoking procedural norms.
Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar and AAP MLA Gopal Italia protested against the removal of crucial election expense discussions from the agenda, arguing the significance of these debates for transparency. The government, led by Forest Minister Arjun Modhwadia, countered that the Election Commission, being a constitutional entity, is beyond legislative scrutiny.
Speaker Chaudhary upheld the agenda modifications, dismissing opposition appeals and emphasizing the autonomy of constitutional bodies like the Election Commission. He maintained the procedural integrity of legislative discussions by adhering to established rules and guidelines.
