Ali Larijani, a prominent figure in Iranian politics and a senior adviser to Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been killed in a U.S.-Israeli airstrike in Tehran, as reported by Iran's semi-official Fars news agency on Tuesday.
Born in 1958 in Najaf, Iraq, Larijani hailed from a powerful Iranian family. His brother, Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani, chairs the Expediency Council, a crucial mediating body in governmental disputes. Ali Larijani led Iran's state broadcasting monopoly for a decade before transitioning to security advising.
A former Iranian Revolutionary Guard and a notable political contender, Larijani was a key player in nuclear negotiations and served as the Iranian Parliament’s Speaker. Despite his political stature, his candidacy for future presidencies was twice rejected by Iran’s electoral watchdog.
