Farmers Unite: SKM Urges Future of MGNREGA Over Pro-Corporate Policies

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) lauded Jharkhand for urging the continuation of MGNREGA. Highlighting similar moves by other states, the SKM urged non-NDA states to follow suit and called for electoral retaliation against the BJP to counter pro-corporate policies like the VB-G RAM G Act.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has congratulated the Jharkhand assembly and Chief Minister Hemant Soren for their resolution calling on the national government to sustain the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). This comes as opposition to the newly introduced VB-G RAM G Act, labeled by many as fostering pro-corporate development.

States like Punjab, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu have already passed similar resolutions, and the SKM is urging remaining non-NDA states to follow this initiative. The organization implores farmers and workers in election-bound territories to vote against the BJP, positioning this as a matter affecting labor rights and state financial burdens.

As states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Assam approach assembly elections, the SKM believes that defeating the BJP-NDA coalition will bolster unity among worker-farmer alliances, empowering them to resist corporate-friendly laws. They call for continuous nationwide protests in tandem with Central Trade Unions to push for an enriched MGNREGA.
