Raghav Chadha Advocates Data Roll-Over for Telecom Consumers

AAP Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha called on telecom companies to permit the carry-forward of unused data for the next billing cycle, allowing consumers full use of their paid data allocations. Highlighting this issue in the Rajya Sabha's Zero Hour, he criticized current reset practices where unused data is lost daily.

Currently, telecom plans comprise daily data limits—ranging from 1.5GB to 3GB—that reset every 24 hours, leading to the expiration of any unused data. Chadha emphasized that consumers are charged for the entire data pack yet do not benefit fully when leftover data expires without a rollover.

Proposing a solution, Chadha suggested unused data be treated as a consumer's digital property, recommending options for its transfer to family or adjusting its value in future recharges. He argued for a broader rethink in policy to better reflect consumer rights over purchased digital services.
