Congress Launches 'Save Democracy' Campaign in Rajasthan

The Congress has initiated a statewide campaign in Rajasthan, accusing the BJP government of delaying local body elections, which they argue undermines democracy. The party plans to appoint numerous office-bearers at the grassroots level and pressure the government to hold elections, as required by court mandates.

In Rajasthan, the Congress party has rolled out a statewide campaign directed against the BJP government over its alleged delay in conducting local body and panchayat elections. The campaign, titled 'Organisation Expansion - Save Democracy', aims to address what the Congress sees as an 'attack on democracy'.

Govind Singh Dotasra, the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief, announced the campaign, which seeks to appoint roughly five lakh office-bearers while bolstering the party's infrastructure across urban and rural areas. Dotasra criticized the state government for running local bodies through administrators instead of holding timely elections, calling it a violation of democratic norms.

The Congress is asserting that the delays are unwarranted, especially as the Rajasthan High Court has instructed the government to conduct elections by mid-April. The party has expressed readiness to escalate the matter both legally and publicly unless their demands are addressed, hoping to enforce local electoral processes and strengthen grassroots governance.
