Judiciary Under Siege: TMC's Alleged Assault on Democracy in West Bengal

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday condemned an assault on seven judicial officers in West Bengal's Malda district, labeling it a "black spot" in India's history. The attack, allegedly orchestrated by "TMC goons" under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, sought to impede the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.

Following the incident, the Supreme Court criticized West Bengal's administrative handling, labeling the episode "deplorable" and indicative of administrative failures. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia questioned Banerjee's integrity and urged her resignation following the Court's harsh observations.

As elections approach, the Court has mandated an independent investigation, potentially involving the CBI or NIA. It also directed the Election Commission to deploy central forces to ensure security during the SIR process across West Bengal.
