Unresolved Grief: Breakthrough in Six-Month Orphan Murder Case

A suspect has been arrested for the murder of a seven-year-old orphan in Meghalaya, breaking a six-month unresolved case. The child's body was found by the roadside, leading to an extensive investigation. The accused, a neighbor, has confessed to the crime and will face legal proceedings.

The police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a seven-year-old boy in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district, concluding a case that has eluded authorities for nearly six months. The child, who was an orphan, disappeared from his home in Lum Marboh, Nongrah, prompting a large-scale search operation.

The child's body was discovered on the roadside near Matngen, Mawpat, identified by relatives the next day. A case was filed at Rynjah police station, and a post-mortem confirmed death due to asphyxia caused by smothering. In response, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to handle the case.

After extensive investigation, the SIT arrested Kenedy Khongsit, a nearby resident. Police revealed that an altercation led the accused to smother the boy, later disposing of the body. Khongsit will be presented in court as police seek his remand for further inquiry.
