Controversy Over Fake Caste Certificate Sparks Criminal Case Recommendation

A major controversy has surfaced involving Yunus Iqbal Sheikh, father of AIMIM's Mumbra corporator Sahar Sheikh, over allegations of using a fake caste certificate. This development has prompted the Thane Tehsildar's office to recommend that a criminal case be registered against him.

The inquiry, led by tehsildar Umesh Patil, was initiated following a complaint from Siddiqui Farha Shabab Ahmed, an NCP rival candidate. The investigation's findings indicated that the OBC certificate, issued to Sheikh in 2011, did not adhere to the official format and failed to possess the requisite mandatory signatures.

Sahar Sheikh's rise to prominence came after her victory in the January municipal elections, where she defeated an NCP candidate backed by local MLA Jitendra Awhad. However, subsequent questions about her caste certificate's legitimacy have highlighted the irregularities in her father's documents. Authorities have recommended immediate annulment of these certificates and an FIR for forgery against Sheikh.
