A theft incident at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters has raised significant security concerns. On Wednesday, Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Laxmi Bhatia reported that Rs 20,000 was stolen from her purse inside the standing committee hall, where crucial civic decisions are taken.
Bhatia, elected from ward 56, stated that the theft occurred while the committee meeting was on a break, and she had exited to have food, leaving her purse unattended. Upon return, she discovered the money missing and her purse open with items scattered around it.
Without CCTV cameras in the hall, the incident has underscored vulnerabilities in the BMC's security measures. Bhatia consulted Mayor Ritu Tawde and Standing Committee Chairman Prabhakar Shinde about the incident, emphasizing that if corporators can't safeguard their belongings, widespread security flaws exist within the system.
