Record Voter Turnout Among Vulnerable Groups in Aizawl Civic Polls

In the Aizawl civic polls, a remarkable 94% of senior citizens, people with disabilities, and individuals with chronic illnesses utilized the home voting facility. Out of 2,768 registered voters from these groups, 2,594 participated. The polls, featuring 68 candidates, will occur on April 21, with counting on April 27.

In a noteworthy demonstration of electoral participation, nearly 94% of senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and those with chronic illnesses have utilized the designated home voting facility in Aizawl's civic polls, according to the Mizoram State Election Commission.

The special voting arrangement commenced on Monday and concluded on Thursday, facilitating 2,594 registered voters out of the total 2,768 applicants from the mentioned categories. This initiative ensures that vulnerable groups can exercise their democratic rights seamlessly.

The general voting for the 19-member urban body is slated for April 21, while votes will be counted on April 27. A total of 68 candidates, with 28 being women, are contesting in the elections. Major political parties, including the ZPM, MNF, Congress, and BJP, have fielded their candidates, with the BJP nominating 11.
