The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are set to convene for their inaugural leadership conference in May, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two-day event in Delhi aims to address India's evolving internal security challenges, while highlighting the critical roles these forces play under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Coordinated by the Intelligence Bureau, the conference might become an annual meeting akin to the Directors General and Inspectors General of Police's gathering. The event will feature the senior leadership of CAPFs, including officers from the Indian Police Service and CAPF cadre, who will discuss ways to enhance national security strategies.
Amid reformative policy transitions, such as the recently passed Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026, the summit seeks to discuss legal and administrative hurdles. Despite the Act aiming for a unified legal framework, CAPF cadre officers have raised concerns over stagnation in ranks due to the Supreme Court's directive on IPS deputations.
