Tragedy in Sushant Lok: National Bird Falls Victim to Hit-and-Run

A tragic incident in Sushant Lok has resulted in the death of a peacock, the national bird of India, allegedly struck by an unidentified vehicle. The incident, reported at approximately 10 am on Friday, has spurred a police investigation.

Acting swiftly on a complaint filed by Gurugram Wildlife Inspector Charan Singh, law enforcement registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the driver following this grave breach of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Inspections at the scene involved a wildlife ranger, a police team, and veterinarian Dr. Rajesh Godara.

Senior officials confirmed the FIR and detailed efforts to identify the vehicle and driver through local CCTV footage. Peacocks, afforded protection under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, are strictly protected under Indian law, highlighting the severity of this unfortunate event.
