A man convicted in a decades-old murder case, Sushil Kumar, was apprehended by Delhi Police officials after nearly a decade in hiding. The arrest comes after nine years post the Delhi High Court's confirmation of his life imprisonment verdict.
The fugitive, known by his alias Guddu, had been on the run since 2017, defying court directives to surrender. On Saturday, police managed to arrest him from a rented accommodation in West Jyoti Nagar, Shahdara, despite the absence of photographic records and a long-disposed residence.
The breakthrough followed a thorough examination of digital records and specific leads by a dedicated crime branch team. Kumar was initially implicated in a 1989 altercation during a Ram Lila event, leading to a fatal stabbing. Previously, he had also faced charges for railway property theft in Uttar Pradesh.
