The Government has stepped up efforts to ensure seamless access to school textbooks nationwide, with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewing the availability, printing, and distribution of NCERT textbooks for the ongoing academic session.

The high-level meeting, attended by School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar and senior officials from the Ministry of Education and NCERT, focused on eliminating delays and strengthening supply systems—particularly in rural and remote regions where access challenges persist.

Focus on Zero Disruption for Students

During the review, the Minister assessed:

  • Stock availability across States and Union Territories

  • Progress in printing of new and revised textbooks

  • Coordination between state authorities and distribution agencies

Reiterating the Government's priority, Pradhan stressed that no student should face inconvenience due to textbook shortages or delays.

"Timely access to textbooks is fundamental to uninterrupted learning," he said, directing officials to ensure that supply chains operate efficiently from printing presses to classrooms.

Strengthening Supply Chains and Printing Capacity

To address bottlenecks, the Minister instructed officials to:

  • Enhance printing capacity where required

  • Improve logistics coordination with states

  • Closely monitor last-mile delivery, especially in underserved areas

Officials were also asked to implement real-time tracking mechanisms to identify and resolve distribution gaps quickly.

Education experts note that delays in textbook delivery can significantly affect learning outcomes, particularly in government schools where students rely heavily on NCERT materials.

Digital Backup Through e-Pathshala

As a contingency measure, the Minister highlighted the role of digital textbooks available on the e-Pathshala platform, ensuring students can continue learning even if physical books are delayed.

The platform provides free access to NCERT textbooks in multiple languages and formats, supporting both students and teachers.

"Digital access ensures continuity while physical distribution is completed," officials noted, adding that the initiative aligns with India's broader push toward digital education and inclusive learning.

Preparing Next Generation of NCERT Textbooks

The meeting also reviewed preparations for upcoming NCERT textbooks, which are expected to align with curriculum reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

These revisions aim to make learning more competency-based, inclusive, and aligned with contemporary educational needs.

Ensuring Equity in Education Delivery

The renewed focus on textbook availability reflects the Government's broader effort to ensure equitable access to education resources, particularly for students in rural and economically disadvantaged areas.

With millions of students dependent on NCERT books each academic year, efficient distribution remains a critical component of India's school education system.

Officials indicated that continuous monitoring and coordination with states will remain a priority in the coming weeks to ensure complete and timely coverage across the country.
