Ashwini Vaishnaw Unveils $15 Billion Google AI Cloud AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

The project, being developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra, will include a 1 GW hyperscale AI data centre, making it one of the largest such facilities globally.

India is positioning itself as a trusted global partner in electronics manufacturing and advanced technology supply chains, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, as the country unveiled one of its most ambitious digital infrastructure projects—a $15 billion Google Cloud AI Hub in Visakhapatnam.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and industry leaders, the Minister highlighted India's rapid transition from a services-driven economy to a manufacturing and innovation powerhouse.

"India is poised to emerge as a major trusted value chain and supply chain partner to the world," Vaishnaw said, crediting strong policy support and visionary leadership for the transformation.

$15 Billion AI Hub to Anchor India's Digital Future

The project, being developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra, will include a 1 GW hyperscale AI data centre, making it one of the largest such facilities globally.

Key highlights:

• Investment: $15 billion

• Capacity: 1 gigawatt hyperscale AI infrastructure

• Land allocation: ~600 acres in Turluvada, Rambilli, and Adavivaram (Andhra Pradesh)

• Global connectivity: Three subsea cables linking India to major digital corridors across Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the United States

The project is expected to significantly enhance India's data processing capabilities, AI ecosystem, and global digital connectivity.

Visakhapatnam to Emerge as 'AI Patnam'

Describing the initiative as transformative, Vaishnaw said Visakhapatnam is set to evolve into "AI Patnam" (AI City)—a major hub for artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

The AI hub is expected to drive advancements across sectors including:

• Education and healthcare

• Aerospace and logistics

• Agriculture and supply chains

"This infrastructure will bring revolutionary changes across industries and accelerate India's digital economy," the Minister noted.

India's Rapid Rise in Electronics Manufacturing

Vaishnaw highlighted that India is already a global leader in IT services and is now rapidly expanding its footprint in electronics manufacturing.

Key milestones include:

• Mobile phones becoming one of India's top export categories

• Nearly 50% of domestic electronics demand met through local production

• Semiconductor Mission gaining traction, with commercial production already underway

He urged global technology companies, including Google, to manufacture servers, GPUs, and semiconductor components in India, reinforcing the country's ambition to become a full-stack technology manufacturing hub.

Strategic Push in Emerging Technologies

The Minister emphasised that India is focusing on building capabilities in critical future technologies, including:

• Semiconductors

• Artificial Intelligence (AI)

• Quantum computing

• Space technologies

This aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, positioning India as a leader in next-generation innovation ecosystems.

Google Cloud's Global Infrastructure Vice President Bikash Koley described the AI Hub as a foundational project for India's digital future.

"This will play a critical role in India's participation in the global AI economy," he said.

Jeet Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, added that the hyperscale data centre will act as a digital gateway for India, strengthening its position in global technology networks.
