A Nashik court has remanded self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat in police custody until May 4, in connection with a case of duping a Pune-based businessman of more than Rs 5 crore. The development comes as part of the ninth case involving Kharat, who also faces allegations of sexual exploitation in multiple other cases.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had petitioned the court to secure Kharat's custody to aid their ongoing investigations into the significant funds involved. Despite the defense's objections, suggesting repetitive justifications by the SIT, the court sided with the prosecution's argument citing the necessity for further inquiry.

The complaint details how the businessman allegedly supported Kharat's international tours and construction projects, including gifting a Mercedes and giving Rs 2.5 crore for a farmhouse, all reportedly under Kharat's instructions. This case has added to the growing legal challenges confronted by the controversial godman.
