An Oscar statuette awarded to Russian director Pavel Talankin for his documentary 'Mr. Nobody Against Putin' was found after going missing during a Lufthansa flight from New York to Germany. The award was initially checked into the hold luggage at JFK Airport due to security concerns, sparking a brief disappearance.
TSA agents informed Talankin of potential security issues with the 8.5 lb statue, leading to its stowage in the hold. After the statuette went missing, Lufthansa confirmed its recovery in Frankfurt and is coordinating its return to Talankin, expressing regret for the inconvenience caused.
The documentary, created with co-director David Borenstein, showcases footage from two years in a Russian school, highlighting the influence of pro-war messaging on students. Talankin insists the film preserves the record of how an entire generation was impacted by such propaganda.
