PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti has raised serious concerns over what she views as efforts by the BJP and National Conference to dismantle the unique cultural identity of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a workers' convention in Ganderbal, she accused the governing bodies of shutting down religious schools like Madinatul Uloom and Sirajul Uloom.
Mufti argued that these closures are part of a broader strategy to target Islamic institutions and religious symbols. Furthermore, she criticized recent changes to employment criteria within the revenue department, suggesting these reforms aim to erase the distinctiveness of the region.
The former chief minister expressed worry about limited job opportunities for local youth, exacerbated by external contracts in the mining sector, accusing the National Conference of nepotism and corruption. Mufti's remarks emphasize ongoing tensions over identity and governance in the Union territory.
