Anuj Meena, a 20-year-old veterinary sciences student, was taken into custody in Rajasthan's Karauli for his role in an online work-from-home scam, police confirmed on Monday. His arrest followed an investigation into a central Delhi resident's complaint, who was swindled out of Rs 34,000. Authorities identified the scam as a cyber fraud operation enticing victims via social media with handwriting-based job offers.

The central victim encountered a suspicious social media account and communicated with the handlers, paying under the guise of fees and verification charges. The con artists allegedly continued to manipulate victims for additional funds using psychological tricks, like claiming transaction failures.

An FIR lodged on April 29 spearheaded a police probe, leading investigators to Anuj Meena by tracing a UPI account tied to him. Technical analysis of social media profiles linked him to several mobile numbers. Meena, during questioning, revealed collaboration with Ganesh Sharma, who brought him into the scamming world. While Sharma ran online communications, Meena handled financial operations. Further investigations aim to uncover accomplices and other victims.
