U.S. Navy Foils Iranian Maritime Aggression in Strait of Hormuz
The U.S. military successfully intercepted Iranian missiles and drones while destroying six Iranian boats amidst an operation to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The operation, involving substantial military assets, aims to protect commercial shipping from Iranian interference.
The United States military has announced the successful interception of Iranian cruise missiles and drones, coupled with the destruction of six Iranian small boats, as part of a strategic operation in the Strait of Hormuz. The initiative aims to safeguard commercial shipping in this critical waterway.
U.S. Admiral Brad Cooper, heading Central Command, highlighted that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) persistently attempts to disrupt efforts to open the strait to global maritime traffic. The military deployment encompasses 15,000 troops, Navy destroyers, over 100 aircraft, and undersea assets.
While traditional ship escorting is not employed, a multi-layered defense, including ships, aircraft, and electronic warfare, is in place to counter any threats. Cooper emphasized a blockade preventing ships from reaching or departing Iran is actively enforced, surpassing initial expectations.
