In a significant development, Britain is negotiating its participation in the European Union's hefty 90 billion euro loan initiative to Ukraine. This comes as Britain aims to qualify for orders on Kyiv's defense strategies, contingent on covering parts of the interest on this international borrowing.

During a meeting at the European Political Community summit in Armenia, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer deliberated on Britain's potential engagement. The EU loan, approved last month, is designed to support two-thirds of Ukraine's military needs over the coming years.

To meet eligibility, Britain must adhere to conditions such as maintaining a Security and Defence Partnership with the EU and providing substantial military and financial backing to Ukraine. The UK must also bear part of the interest proportionate to contract awards it receives from Ukraine.
