Trump Pauses Hormuz Operation Amid Progress with Iran
President Trump announced a pause in the operation to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz due to progress toward an agreement with Iran. The U.S. had been conducting operations in response to Iran's sealing of the strait. Diplomatic talks continue despite regional tensions.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary halt to the U.S. military operation in the Strait of Hormuz. This pause is in light of promising negotiations with Iran aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement, he shared on social media on Tuesday.
Prior to Trump's statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the U.S. had been actively escorting tankers out of the Gulf, an operation that was launched in February in coordination with Israeli forces. Iran had effectively restricted traffic by threatening mines and deploying military assets, prompting U.S. intervention.
Despite the operational pause, tensions remain high. The UAE has reported missile attacks originating from Iran, while Iran denies these accusations. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts involving the U.S., Iran, and mediation by Pakistan continue as both nations navigate toward a potential peaceful resolution.
