A 70-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting his nine-year-old granddaughter in a slum in Pune's Parvati area. The incident took place around 9:30 PM on Tuesday.
According to police, the man, intoxicated at the time, coaxed his granddaughter into a secluded room and attempted to disrobe her. The child's screams drew the attention of alert neighbors, who quickly forced open the door to rescue her.
The neighbors detained the accused and notified local law enforcement. Police promptly arrived and took him into custody. The child was taken to Sassoon General Hospital for a medical check, which showed no penetrative assault, but she remains under observation. Protests erupted in the neighborhood, leading to an increased police presence to restore peace.
