Police in Maharashtra's Pune district have recreated the scene of a horrific crime involving the alleged rape and murder of a four-year-old girl by a 65-year-old man in Nasrapur. The reconstruction took place under tight security late on Tuesday night, officials confirmed.
The accused had allegedly sexually assaulted and killed the child on May 1, in Bhor's Narsapur, sparking waves of outrage and public protests. Authorities stated that the man demonstrated the crime's unfolding at the cattle shed where it reportedly occurred. The autopsy revealed death by asphyxia due to gagging.
With a criminal history of sexual offenses, the man is now detained as forensic and technical evidence is analyzed. The case's spotlight has prompted the state government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to call for rapid justice, including the possibility of a death penalty for the accused. Community anger persists, evidenced by protests blocking the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway.
