In a significant move to enhance governance and regulatory mechanisms, the Centre has extended provisions of five state legislations to Chandigarh, including three from Punjab. This endeavor aims to modernize the legal frameworks, offering enhanced transparency and ease of living for residents.
Notifications under Section 87 of the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, facilitated this legal extension, following the long-standing practice of incorporating suitable state laws into the Union Territory. This comprehensive reform package targets addressing gaps in existing laws, bringing uniformity, and strengthening citizen protections.
The updated legal frameworks involve amendments in property valuation, land administration, travel regulation, fire safety laws, and tenancy agreements. These changes are anticipated to reduce disputes, improve safety standards, and support efficient governance and urban development in Chandigarh.
