Iran has categorically denied any involvement by its armed forces in the recent damage to a South Korean vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement from its embassy in Seoul issued on Thursday.

The embassy emphasized that safe navigation through the critical waterway requires strict adherence to Iranian regulations. Meanwhile, the incident has escalated tensions in the region.

On Monday, a Panama-flagged ship operated by South Korea's HMM experienced an explosion and subsequent fire. U.S. President Donald Trump blamed the incident on an Iranian attack, but South Korea's Foreign Ministry stated that the cause of the fire would only be determined once the vessel reaches port and undergoes inspection.
