A six-year-old student died after falling into an open well near his school here on Thursday morning, police said. The incident took place in the Adinapur village where Lavish, a student of a private school, had gone near a water tap installed beside an old well close to the school premises. According to villagers, the area around the well had become slippery due to rain and the child allegedly slipped and fell into the deep well. Residents immediately started rescue efforts by lowering ropes into the well and attempting to climb down, but the depth of the well hampered operations. After receiving information, the police also reached the spot, and pulled the child with the help of villagers. Bhuta Station House Officer Ravindra Kumar said the child was rushed to hospital in critical condition, but died on the way.
