Amit Shah to review flood, heatwave preparedness at high-level meeting

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will do a comprehensive review of country's preparedness for dealing with possible floods and heatwave conditions on Sunday. Shah will chair a high-level meeting to assess the readiness of the central agencies, review early warning systems, resource deployment and inter-agency coordination, to ensure zero loss of life and minimal loss to property, according to an official statement. During the meeting, which will be attended by senior officers from various ministries and departments, the Home Minister will take stock of strengthening flood forecasting and early warning systems through advanced technology and real-time data integration, it added. Discussions will be held on enhancing preparedness for dealing with simultaneous disasters, particularly the challenges of floods and heatwaves, community awareness and resilience-building programmes for preventing loss of life and property and ensuring adequate stock of essential relief materials and medical preparedness. The Home Minister will also assess the progress of long-term flood mitigation measures being taken across the country, including protection of critical infrastructure projects, river management initiatives and scientific advancements in forecasting, the statement read. The decisions taken during the last year's review meeting will also be scrutinised, ensuring accountability and accelerated coordinated execution of activities, it said.
