Police arrest three for 'raping' woman in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum

Three persons were arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a woman in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, a police officer said. The arrests were made after the victim lodged a complaint on May 6. The victim was under threat from the accused, who warned her of dire consequences if she dared to disclose the incident, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chaibasa Sadar) Bahman Tuti at a press conference here. In her statement, the victim said she was alone at home when the accused trio allegedly raped her, the police officer said. Taking cognisance of the incident, Superintendent of Police Amit Renu formed a joint police team headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar Jayaraju and Tuti to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators, Tuti said. The police conducted raids and arrested all three accused, who happened to be the residents of the same village as the victim. The accused confessed to their crime during interrogation, the police officer said. The victim was sent for a medical check-up.
