Encounter in Meerut: Notorious Sharpshooter Neutralized by UP STF

A notorious sharpshooter associated with the Munir gang was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Meerut on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Zubair, had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head for his involvement in a murder case, according to Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General, STF.
Zubair, originally from Nausha village in Aligarh, was currently residing in Shaheen Bagh, Delhi. The encounter occurred when the STF's Lucknow unit intercepted him in the Alipur area. During the shootout, Zubair sustained critical bullet injuries and was declared dead after being rushed to Meerut Medical College.
The police recovered two .32 bore pistols, a motorcycle, and a large number of empty cartridges and live ammunition from the scene. Zubair was a known history-sheeter with around two dozen criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, including murder and robbery. He was a suspect in the December 2025 murder of Rao Danish Hilal in Aligarh's Civil Lines area.
