The Supreme Court on Friday voiced strong discontent with the 'irresponsible statements' made by certain politicians regarding the non-hearing of the Shiv Sena symbol dispute. Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi emphasized the importance of reserving judgment until court proceedings were complete.
Politicians were cautioned against making such statements, with CJI expressing visible frustration. The court scheduled the hearing for July 30, advising political factions to refrain from media commentaries that undermine judicial processes. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the Eknath Shinde faction, remarked on the pressures faced by the judiciary and the need for respectful discourse.
The dispute centers around the Election Commission's decision to assign the 'bow and arrow' symbol to Shinde's faction. The Thackeray faction challenges this, citing constitutional inconsistencies and alleging biased proceedings favoring legislative majority. These complex legal arguments will require thorough consideration by the bench in upcoming sessions.
